Our local team was 4-0, facing a tough opponent (last years champs, and #2 this year.)
Defensive slugfest. Our guys held them to 3 FG, and no TDs. We scored, and it was 9-7, their way with 6 minutes left...and we had to punt.
They ran the ball, ate the clock..it was getting close to 2 minutes, though we had time outs, it wouldn't matter if they got another 1st down.
Our guys stopped them on 3rd and short.
They punted, we fouled, got pinned deep in our territory with 2 minutes and change.
A couple of passes and a run later, we are past the 50. We get to the opponents 31, 12 seconds left, throw a pass, incomplete. Now we have less than 5 seconds. TIme for one play...go for TD, or try a 45 yard FG?
We opt for the FG.
The ball clears the upright, just as time expires! Just like in the movies. What's more, the kicker, was out all of last year due to a concussion he'd got in baseball. This is his senior year..and he wins a game in dramatic fashion.
Wow..what a finish.
I almost feel bad for the other team, who played really hard, really clean..what a way to lose.
They were as dejected as we were elated. The students stormed the field. Just like in a college upset.
Amazing for a HS game!
