Wrapper Contribution to Flavor

I've read at different places that the wrapper contributes anywhere from 20 - 80 % to a cigar's overall flavor. I never knew what to think about this until I dropped my LFD L300 yesterday and the wrapper got trashed and unraveled to the band. I thought, "what the heck", and continued smoking it without the wrapper until it got to the band. It really changed the cigar from a great smoke to a ho-hum, what the hell is this? type of smoke. When I took the band off and resumed with the wrapper in place, it was like night and day.
