I always liked him, considering what little I really know about him. Seems like a stand-up guy, demanded a lot from his players, and took a fall for his coaches. There's so little loyalty in sports, anymore, that I have to admire him for stepping down rather than fire coaches.
Yes I know coaches need firing sometimes, and that it's a cut-throat business. Like I say, there's no loyalty on ANY side of the sports bidness, whether it's coaches, athletic dirctors, alumni, players, professional general managers, owners, players and coaches, either. You hate to see a guy who seems to have a modicum of integrity and steadfastness get canned or resign. But he did so honorably, going down, SEEMINGLY for his beliefs and his friends. That's so rare in our day and time.
