Seasoning a humidor
Does it need to be done more than once? My 150ct. was doing just fine before winter. Now, no matter what I can't get it up over 60%. I'm using beads and checking almost everyday...

Probably not. Do you have a forced air gas furnace in your home. If so the ambient humidity, or more specifically lack of humidity, in your home during the winter will have an effect on your humidor.

great point. i have a forced air gas furnace, whick keeps ambient humidity around 40% in the house. i have three humidors with kitty litter beads holding steady at 64-66%. requires recharging the beads more frequently during the winter.

Ok, I just added more beads to both my humi's. I'll see if it helps...

In the winter I add water to my humidifiers that I keep in my humidors. I'll check once a week or so, or whenever I'm in there nosing around. The rest of the year, the beads keep it stable.

In the winter I check my RH almost daily because of the heat in my house.... In the summer a bit less often.
But I keep most of my smokes on the dry side (65% rh, or less). john |

DON'T CHECK IT EVERYDAY!!! Every time you open it, you are losing humidity, especially in winter. Just leave it alone for a couple days, if it drops real low, say below 40%, then probably something is wrong with either your humidor or gauge. I used to absessed with RH also. Then I realized it is not rocket science. Feel your cigars. Do they bounce back when you squeeze the foot? Are they smoking well?
