I think its finally going to hit Mobile. One of our state senators
has presented bills each session & they have not passed. Although
cities throughout Alabama have legislated there own bills & passed
them. At this point I no longer care, since the bars & eateries
have made there own decision not to allow smoking. It should be
there decision to make & not be forced IMHO. For the most part,
the few places that allowed smoking were for cigarettes only, and
that has been probably for the last 4-5 yrs.

A pizza joint in the next town over had a sign on their front door that said "no cigar smoking" before the state smoking in public ban. I refused to eat there because of that and a couple other reasons.

It hit Birmingham and I hate to say it but it is pretty cool to play music in non smoking clubs. Although I disagree with the ordinance 100% and it has hurt some clubs business although the clubs think it will pick back up. The rule is you can only smoke in the establishment if 80% of the sales is tobacco....Which only leaves cigar shops.

It is totally opposite of the free enterprise idea IMHO

As to eateries that allow cigarettes and not cigars. I'm fine with that. Cigars put out a lot more smoke then a cigarette. I understand why they would restrict cigar smoke.

The problem is, there are no places that allow cigar smoking. Except
for outside if they have a patio. The closest indoor smoking area
would be the casino's in Biloxi. I would not be surprised if they
eventually said cigars are no longer allowed.

That's Michigan now. The casinos and cigar shops are the only businesses where you can smoke inside now. The local casino sells cigars so I don't see them banning those.

I'm speaking about restaurants that choose to not allow cigar smoking. Most restaurants choose to restrict smoking. Its when government dictates that no one can allow smoking that I don't like.

honestly, guys, I have no problem with no smoking at restaurants.
It always surprises me when we stop at a small town eatery in Texas and see people smoking.
I also have no problem smoking cigars outside, but it's also nice to have an indoor cigar-smoking bar.
In Alaska, you can't even smoke in cigar shops.
However, it is certainly nice enough outside there in the summer.

The first problem, with all of this, is that most of us, cigar-smokers, are fairly nice people. We don't want to inconvenience or hurt other people. We want to be left alone to enjoy our little bit of "the good life."

Those who oppose us, are not, fairly nice people. Many are ignorant and in-between, and take whatever is dealt to them in thirty-second public-service announcements, commercials or biased news coverage.

The second problem, comes from the first, they don't want to compromise, they don't want to find a solution.

We can't, as a group, be nice, like we are. We HAVE to fight it. We can't just say "well, I can understand no smoking in restaurants, I don't like that either....." While I happen to agree, our opposition sees this as a weak spot, and exploit it to defeat us.

It's sad that it has to come to this, but it often seems that the cigar and pipe smoker is the only reasonable person in the discussion.
