Question Cigars and Cruise

Taking a cruise and will be the first time going on one since I’ve started smoking cigars. I plan on bringing my own cigars. Are their any restrictions about bringing cutters and lighters on board the ship? What are some of the do’s and don’t’s??

I have taken three cruises in recent years, and enjoyed cigars on all of them. While the rules may vary between ships, all 3 had a smoking lounge with drinks available, and deck areas and times when smoking was allowed - some with bar service. Bring your own stash, because cigars are available for purchase, but are not exactly cheap. All the ships were under foreign flag, so I was hoping they would have Cubans for sale, but no dice. If the ships frequent US ports, they are restricted in that regard - so stupid!

I always booked cabins with a balcony, where you can smoke any time, but don't toss butts overboard! I always bring a can with a lid for that.

Have a great cruise!

there are no restrictions and cutters that I have ever heard of. for gawd's sake take your own cigars. enjoy.

Do:

Enjoy
Bring your own
Check teh cruise ship's info before you go
Check again when ou get on board

Don't:

Buy on board
Buy glass topped boxes of cuban cigars
Forget the do's

Took several Carnival cruises a few years ago so the rules may have changed.

They allowed cigars on the Lido deck and only in a few lounges. Most of the bar/lounges only allowed cigarettes and not cigars. I was actually asked not to light up in one of the bars we were in.

With apologies to Mad Dawg, I wanted to update you guys.

We have just returned from seven days on the Carnival Dream out of New Orleans. The ship was built in 2009 and is currently the largest class of Carnival vessel. Here are a few points as to where Carnival is, right now.
  • Cigars: brought 14 cigars in a Herf-a- Dor
  • Cutter: brought my Xikar Multi-Tool in its pouch, in the Her-a-Dor
  • Lighters: Brought two, small Xikar, and large Vector Table lighter, both in Herf-a-Dor
The Herf-a-Dor was carried in my knapsack/carry-on luggage. It went through the screening machine with no questions asked.

Smoking aboard.
The Carnival Dream ONLY allows cigar smoking on the Lanai, Deck Five, port side amidships, outside. The Lanai on the starboard side is smoke-free or cigarettes only. The Lanai promenade is the only deck where guests can walk the entire circumference of the vessel outside.

Cigarette smoking is allowed in the Jackpot Casino and Jackpot Bar ONLY when gambling is open. When closed, no smoking. It's the only indoor smoking on the vessel.

Cigarette smoking is allowed on Deck 11, ABOVE the Lido deck, aft. Again, no cigars.

There IS a cigar lounge on the ship, on Deck 4 amidships, in front of the Crimson Dining Room and Across from the library. However, since indoor smoking is now banned, NO ONE goes in there, at all. It's got big leather chairs, banquettes, bronze sculptures on the tables, and there are two cigar boxes still in the former humidor. It'd be a great place to sit with a drink and contemplate or have that private conversation. But there's no music, no smoking, nothing. I fully expect Carnival to change it next dry-dock.

In my comments on my recent cruise survey, I took Carnival to task for not allowing us to use the Lanai on the starboard side, as well. It can't hurt, that way the smoker could at least choose to be in the sun or in the shade. Now, the Lanai IS covered, but depending upon the time of day still gets significant sun.

That is all.

That is irony for you. A cigar lounge where you can't smoke.
