Tonight's drink/cigar pairing turned out to be a most rewarding after dinner pleasure.

Cognac: Planat XO (this house is owned by Camus) - newly arrived at our local (read: small) liquor shop.
This cognac has a very dark amber color with shades of deep mahogany. The aroma is full and fragrant, with hints of dried fruit and hazelnut. The flavor is well balanced, smokey, full-bodied, and with undertones of vanilla, tobacco and walnut. It also has a very nice, long aftertaste with just the right amount of "fire" to it. Just MHO, but if you "experiment" with various Cognacs, always buy at least an XO. And this one was relatively cheap - $28 btl.

Cigar: 2½ yr. old RyJ Cazadore
A great cigar to compliment this Cognac. I'm told newer RyJ Cazadores have mellowed in comparison to years past. This older one (I even lit it with a spill - how CA-ish!) was quite strong and full-bodied. Although the draw was a bit firmer than I prefer, it still produced copious (love that word!) amounts of smoke. The cigar had relatively complex flavors of woody/earthy/leafy spices with hints of herbs. Nubbed it! I'll definitely have to travel back in time to get more of these.

All-in-all, a very good pairing of cigar and drink tonight.
