Hey, thanks a lot guys.

I'm sitting here drooling on my keyboard reading all the raves about home roasted coffee till I can't stands in no mo!

What else could I do but order a Hearthware roaster & 8 coffee sampler from Sweet Marias?

One more addiction for the wife to deal with.
(Lordy, I hope she likes the coffee
)

hearthware has a deal on their web site for a roaster and free beans, very good price. Check out the mayorgaimports.com site, too. Green beans aren't as fussy as their roasted cousins. Right now I'm storing them in ziplock bags, but will move some of them to jars. There's a book, too, mentioned on sweet maria's that helps a lot.

The book is "Home Coffee Roasting" by Kenneth Davids and, while a bit out-dated, is very good. It doesn't talk about roasters like the Hearthware but it does talk at length about characteristics of different coffees and various roasting methods.

As for storage of green beans, they like cool dark place. For short-term storage (3-6 months), airtight containers are fine. For longer term, use cloth bags. The beans need to breath. When I order from Sweet Marias, I usually add cloth sacks to my order. They're pretty cheap and I'll soon have enough to use on new orders as well.

This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence.
