G.L. Pease - Telegraph Hill
There may be a G.L. Pease blend out there somewhere that is not excellent, but I have never had it. It certainly is not "Telegraph Hill," another winner from GLP.
I do not smoke Latakia blends, haven't for 10+ years. I now confine myself to Virginia blends, and especially enjoy Virginia Perique blends. For example, I have pounds (yes, pounds) of Haddo's Delight in my tobacco cellar. But now I think I prefer Telegraph Hill, a new VA/Per blend from GLP. It shares many of the characteristics of Haddo's, but is better, IMO, as it is drier and somewhat less sweet. Moreover, it's name is far less goofy. The high quality of the tobacco is immediately apparent upon opening the tin, and the fragrance is slightly sweet. Golden VA ribbon predominates, sprinkled throughout with darker VA and speckled with Perique. It burns evenly and drily, and smokes well from the first puff to the end of the bowl. At the risk of emloying a cliche, it is "pure tobacco flavor" without a hint of casking or fragrance. I highly recomend it for any VA smoker, and those who enjoy a cleaner, tobacco taste!
