I moved my humidor to the basement
I was noticing that the temperatures have been way to high over the summer. It has only been one day but the temp has dropped back to 75 after last look. I believe this move will be good.

I think that is a good move. I wish we had a basement. My smoking room is located above the attached garage, 2nd story.
The only problem I ever had with beetles was when the AC went on the fritz when I was over at a friends house for the evening and the room temp went up to 84 degrees. Fortunantly they were confined to 1 box of about 10 stickes. It is a little worrisome for me that the health of my collection can be compromised by things out of my control. Mark |

Well, before I put any new cigar(s) into that humidor, they get frozen first. It is my first defense against beetles.

Yes, I know that is something I should do...........I need to obtain some type of metal box to place the sticks in to put in the freezer. My fear is the cigars getting damaged due to the wife / daughter rummaging around in the deep freeze.
How long do you leave them in there. The temp in my freezer is 0 degrees. Is that cold enough? I have read so much conflicting information on this, another reason why I have not made it SOP. Mark |

I put them in the fridge for a few days then in to the freezer for 2 or more days then back into the fridge for a few more days. There is a thread which can give you more information than I can here. I suggest you read it and decide for yourself. After my reading, I became convinced that this is something I want to be diligent about. I got a lot of cigars in that tower humi and I want to do all I can to help prevent the problem.

Whenever I'm gonna be away from my house for more than a couple of days, I put my humidor inside a cooler in the basement. Temperature stays good, and evaporation is non-existent.
