Questio.n for Jazznut: Blended Scotches
I have very little experience with them, we drink single malts and Irish. Are there so e regular production blends that you like (and would actually choose if you had single malts available)?

I'm not Jazznut but I adore several of the Compass Box blended scotches- I just bought the latest Juvenile, have the hedonism (2 versions) the Spaniard, oak cross, great king street (2 versions), the whiskey they did for Binny's anniversary, No Name, Asyla, The Circus, and I am looking for "this is not a luxury whiskey"
Dennis Laing also makes some fantastic blended whiskey - I am working through a bottle of rock oyster. I have Timorous Beastie and Scallywag as well Johnny Walker is the most common blended scotch by far I am sure

Not a fan of Johnny, even the blue label.

A really good place to start.
The Oak Cross (very nice mouth feel), The Spice Tree (more coastal) and Great King Street (perhaps a tad lighter and more approachable) are all very fine whiskies, as are the ones grtrx recommended. Some other suggestions... Dewar's 18 Year Old (round and quite richly textured) Islay Mist 17 Year Old (a touch smoky, but demurely so) Jameson 18 Year Old (oh so complex!) Teeling Small Batch Irish (crisply delineated and delicious) Nikka Black Pure Malt (stunningly good) and Nikka Whisky from the Barrel You might also want to give Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old a try.

gumby what scotch do you like? Blended scotches contain components that may have more sherry or more peat. It can be very cool what they do with blending process to make a unique dram. And knowing what you like in single malt helps match a blended scotch to your palate.

Depends on the mood, weather, etc. Love big peaty drams during winter (Laphroaig, Lagavulin) to softer drams as it warns up Tomitoul, Macallan, Glenmorangie, Aberlour, Black Bush, Red Breast). If it helps, I do ‘t care for most Bourbons.

Compass Box has a Peat Monster series you might enjoy
https://www.compassboxwhisky.com/whi...index.php?id=9 It is Scotch, it is not bourbon

if you want an interesting dram try Compass Box Phenomenology - red fruits, subtle smoke, long finish... honey and apples... strange stuff in a good way
