Cameroon Wrappers
I was told by one manufacturer that Cameroon wrappers were very delicate. To that fact Cameroon wrappers from Cameroon were so delicate that only 75% of these wrappers were useable as wrappers. But Ecuador Cameroon was 90% usable as wrappers. Can any of you tell the difference between the two Cameroon wrappers? Why would you use Cameroon wrappers from Cameroon when there is so much of the bail that can not be used as wrappers? Just curious about your opinion.

The soil is very different in both places.
Jose Blanco does tasting seminars. The cigars have 4 different wrappers, and as you smoke, he asks you to guess the wrapper, and any flavor notes you might detect. I love sumatra... and I guessed that one very correctly, it was indonesian sumatra, not equadorian. The difference is subtle, sometimes more in the texture of the leaf (healthier plant) or whatever... but there. is. a. difference....

I've never heard of Cameroon wrapper grown in Ecuador, but it makes sense. I'm a fan of most wrapper grown in Ecuador. They haven't been growing in Ecuador for that long. In my opinion that has been the biggest boon to cigars.

Tru dat. Most wrapper leaves grown in Ecuador seem pretty excellent. Seems they grow a lot of wrapper leaf. And, I agree Sumatran leaf is good, and I often drink their coffee.

Ecuadorian Sumatra has been around for I think about 10 years. They grow Connecticut shade there too - but without shade, they grow it where the mountain side is in constant cloud cover, I'm told...

I think they started a little over 20 years ago. Ashton VSG was Ecuadorian. I'm not a fan of USA Connecticut wrapper, but Ecuadorian Connecticut is one of my favorite wrappers. I think the whole point is the soil composition and constant cloud cover is perfect for wrapper which needs to be thinner. Opening up Ecuador probably was one of the major improvements in non-Cuban cigars. Habano, Sumatra and Connecticut are the only that I was aware of, but it makes sense that they open up other wrappers. Cameroon would be interesting as it's an excellent wrapper.

Love Cameroon wrapped cigars. Such a different flavor profile. They are in fact VERY delicate and I’ve had a fair share of AJF and CAO cigars w this wrapper that have cracked. Still think they’re worth it and probably why they are still sold - there’s a market for them.
