Cooler/Spanish Cedar question

I'm very new to this but it's amazing how fast I'm collecting cigars. I've decided to go with a cooler set-up for whatever won't fit in my small humidor (which is quickly becoming quite a bit, for me).
Oddly enough, coinciding with my new found interest in cigars, I happen to have a good bit of spanish cedar in my garage. I've been using it for some exterior casings while replacing siding on my old house. I overshot the runway on my estimate of 1x4's needed. I plan on using some of it in my cooler to help stabilize the humidity. Is it worth doing? I've ordered some Climmax beads and a digital hygrometer.
I was thinking about putting a few chunks in the cooler for now, but may go ahead and build some stacking trays with it to keep the boxes apart and help with air circulation. Overkill?
