chasing the needle
I've encountered a problem pilots like to call chasing the needle.
I can't seem to keep the humidity in my humidor for more than a day or two and don't know why. I have a passive humidifier, however i just use water. can't seem to find ppg anywhere around here. any recommendations on how I might stabilize my humi? I don't want any exploding cigars on my hands. Thanks in advance. |

1. Surely you are using only distilled water.
2. Wal-Mart pharmacy. They order it from Carolina Biological Supply or something like that. It takes two days to come in. $6.62 for a 16 oz. bottle last time I ordered. 3. Wonder if your humidor isn't sealing well? Put a couple phone books on top of it so the lid is forced tight. Check it in a couple days. Just some ideas.

Put the humidor in a big plastic bag and see if the humidity holds longer. This will tell you if it is a problem with the seal on your humidor. And get yourself some PG solution any tobacconist will have it or you can order at many places online...You will not get the proper humidity level without it (humidity will try to go too high)

tim, do you mind taking a look at it? I'm going to swing by a walmart and check out some ppg. I put a real sponge in last night and it has held constant all day, so maybe that will help.

Dave,
While you're at Wal-Mart, go to the floral dept and pick up a block of wet floral foam for about a buck. Better than using a sponge.

Most of the on-line cigar retailers sell 50/50 PG, good prices too!

The convenience has to be worth something. My last order from JR's, I included a 16 oz. bottle of 50/50. I don't have time for two trips to Walmart just to save a couple of dollars.
