chlorine sanitizing agents can set off TCA in wood... there are instances of wineries corking mass quantities of their wine accidently

Top-quality cork never was exactly cheap. And with the material now being diverted toward other uses (such as cork flooring, etc.), it's little wonder the cost is rising.

Supply and demand is one of the factors of life.

One of the reasons (there are others) meats have become more expensive is we are burning feed in our vehicles. (Ethanol)

The cost of tequila is supposedly getting higher as well, and some of the cheaper ones are using adjuncts instead of 100 percent agave. Part of that is because it's more popular, but another part of it is that so damned many people have decided that Agave sugar belongs on their pancakes and cereal.

WTF? I have to pay a couple dollars more for a bottle of tequila because some new age dingbat is willing to pay ten times the price for the agave that should be going to distillers? Life ain't fair. Just like bourbon and cigars, you just can't decide one day to increase the output. Agave plants take a few years to reach maturity. it would take a five year program to boost production significantly. happily, the guys who buy $5 a bottle Don Long One tequila won't care if half of the ferment juice is corn syrup.

I dunno. Those natural corks seemed to do pretty good for those bottles of champagne that they pulled up from under water. About 150 years old? Not too bad.

Supply and demand rules. Fairness has nothing to do with it.

Don't want to the price for a product, don't.
