Clarke, Mingus and Carter. Then come the rest. Pastorius was outstanding as well...pity what became of him in Ft. Lauderdale...Jack Bruce deserves an honorable mention here as well.

What happened to Jaco Pastorius? I never heard he passed on. Saw him with Weather Report a couple of times, and he, along with Stanley Clarke, were heroes of mine when I was younger. I used to put on that vinyl and try to stumble along with my old Gibson Thunderbird bass (wish I still had that...)

Gotta go w/ Dr. Evil and Pumpkinhead on this one. Jaco is untouchable....although aja and Faust gave respect to my main man Mr. Mingus, I believe that although his bass playing kicked ass, his strong point was more as a composer/arranger and band leader.

The bass player for Jeff Beck's tour a few years back. I think it was Randy Hope-Taylor . Whoever it was, he kicked ass!
