High Humidity Issues

I recently purchased some 65% beads and I set them up in my 48Qt Cooler. I have roughly less than a 1/2 pound of beads in a mesh bag, and the cooler is close to full with boxes and cedar trays. To battle the high heat, I also have a block of blue ice sitting on top of the lid of my cooler. My problem is, whenever I check my cooler, my hygrometer shows an RH above 70. I salt tested my hygrometer, and have checked my readings with two different hygrometers, and the results are similar. I was thinking it might possibly be due to the blue ice on top of my cooler, but it is sitting on the outside, not the inside of the cooler. Is there a reason for this? Do I have enough beads, or too many? Is there a possible solution?

Half pound should be enough for a 48 qt cooler. But having them all in one bag may not be the most efficient way to use them.

How was thehumidity before you put the blue ice on top of the cooler?

Where is the hygrometer in relationship to the blue ice? You may be measuring the small air mass directly under the blue ice giving you a reading that does not represent the actual state of your cooler. (I'm assuming that the area immediately under the blue ice would be colder that other areas.)

Good advice.

Thanks for the advice. Tonight I'll try breaking down the beads into separate parts of my cooler, and I will move my hygrometer around to different parts of my cooler to see if I get any different readings. The RH before I put the ice pack on my cooler was still creeping up to 70%, but maybe I didn't give it enough time to settle in. I guess I might have to take the pack off to restore humidity, at the expense of letting my cigars cook in the heat
