URGENT! Washington State Voters

From Rain City Cigars:

Dear Washington State Cigar Aficionados,

The Washington Legislature (house & senate) is considering two bills that are very detrimental to your local tobacconists and will result in less choices for you. We ask for your support in opposing these two bills.

Senate Bill 5340 and House Bill 1249 will both make it illegal for Washington State cigar aficionado's (that means you) to order cigars through catalogs or over the internet and have them shipped to you. This law would impose fees, fines and possible criminal charges against offenders.

The stated purpose of this law is to prevent persons under 18 years of age from obtaining tobacco products via mail order. If this type of transaction ever occurs it is a tiny fraction of the total number and could easily be controlled by simply using, "ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED" on all cigar shipments. It also ridiculously assumes that there is a significant number of underage persons smoking cigars and buying them with credit cards.

This law is just another "feel good" measure being pushed by the usual anti-tobacco suspects. It would accomplish next to nothing but greatly diminish your ability to shop for the best selection, price and customer service.

These bills will be voted on next Tuesday, February 3rd. TIME IS SHORT.

The results would be:

LOSS OF REVENUE TO WASHINGTON STATE BUSINESS!
LOSS OF TOBACCO TAX REVENUE TO WASHINGTON STATE!
LOSS OF SALES TAX REVENUE TO WASHINGTON STATE!
LOSS OF CHOICE FOR THE CONSUMER TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!

Everyone in Washington looses if this law is passed.

We ask that you make your voice heard in opposition to these bills by contacting your lawmakers in Olympia and asking them to vote against these bills.

Go to www.leg.wa.gov/legislature and use the "FIND YOUR DISTRICT" tab to find your lawmakers contact information. Please call them, write them & send them an e-mail voicing your opposition to this law.

We also ask that you contact as many of the following lawmakers as possible via phone or e-mail. Cut & paste to contact them all.
