Activating Climmax Beads?

Regarding my 65% Climmax beads, after seasoning my Vicksburg, and the RH was at 71%, I placed 3 "stocking sausages" of beads, a little over a 1/2 pound in my humi. In one day the RH was at 65%. No problem.
The humi holds at 65% for about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks then it starts to dip to 64, 63 at this point I put a small flat container in my humi with distilled water. The RH climbs back to 70, then I remove the water and it levels off at 65 % for another week or two. I have tested the hygrometer and accounted for the error.
I have never put water on the beads to activate them, because it is my understanding they will absorb the excess RH in the humi till they stabilize at 65%.
My questions are, should I add the prescribed amount of water to the beads to "activate them" ? How long will the beads maintain 65% before having to add more water or add a container of distilled water to your humi to "recharge" them, on an average. The seal on my humi is tight and I only open it once a day briefly, only to grab my daily smoke. The humi is about 1/2 full.
Since this is my first time using the beads, and the directions say to add water to the beads, I just wanted to make sure I had it covered. I know the beads are maintanance free but I did not think I would have to add a tray of distilled water every 2 weeks to maintain them.
Am I or did I do something wrong? Do I need to add more beads? Or is everything OK
Thanks in advance for any help or info
