suggestion...

sorry to chime in late.

two ways to do it, one more involved and you will have to re-think your plan if you decide to go that route.

one member stated the seal should not be 'airtight'--meaning absolutely NO air. that member is correct. humidors should breath and they do this in 3 ways: naturally, through quality tropical wood; through an undertuck seal or if your humidor does not have an undertuck seal through microscopic spaces near hinges, etc; last, when you open the humidor every now and then (which you should do).

if you dont want to change your plans, and you still want to use a plywood backing, i suggest gorilla glue. that glue is stonrg and uses natural adherents. please don't use those other choices, they are not necessary as far as strength and they are toxic and i hate using them on humidor quality wood. floating it is not the solution as humidity levels monitored by a hygrometer will never be balls on accurate and the integrity of the humidor will always be in question. for example, the panel may warp very quickly given the float and the moisture.

if crafting by hand, we like to use a natural undertuck method whereby one wall will slide into the other wall and 'tuck' under it. kind of like the seal you get in a quality box style humidor when you close the lid. this can be glued or not glued. if it is a support wall, glue is nice. if it is a back wall, no glue needed unless the wall is quite heavy. obviously, if you try this, your plans will change drastically, and you will not be using plywood. believe it or not, we sometime use wood screws on our large cabinets--not the sharp metal wood screws your thinking of, but actually screws made of hard wood that 'plug' into the humidor, then expand with the moisure to seal off airpass. this works great and looks fantasitic cosmetically but you wont find them anywhere, so you have to handmake these too or have a craftman do it for you.

hope this helps and feel free to email if you need any help. i can get a craftmasn to respond.
