French wines
Being a total novice when it comes to wine, I have been reading about French wines, more specifically just the Burgandy region for now...
I was looking into affordable ones, my idea and some of these articles idea of affordable differs a little... The one article the least expensive was still in low $200's... However, there are many approachable ones under $30... The less than 30 are the ones I am interested in at the moment... I won't find anything locally more than likely, so, will have to go on a road trip or ship it in... Any recommendations?? Dan

JJBuckley.com has a great inventory.
The current issue of Food & Wine also has a great article listing French wines, many affordable. Also, if you like Burgundies (which is made from the pinot noir grape) check out some Oregon pinots, they make them in the Burgundy style.

I got that issue yesterday in the mail, it was pretty ironic since I started looking into the French stuff mid week... I will check out that website... Also, I am sitting outside with a cigar watching Indycar, as I was reading your post the wind blew the Food & Wine mag to page 61, that page is an ad for a Pinot Noir, from, Oregon... Dan

I want to try French wine seems akin to I want to try Nicaraguan cigars.
There is no right or wrong way to do it. Just try stuff, you'll be surprised what you'll learn. Maybe you should find a class somewhere on wine tasting so you can at least feel comfortable with the vocabulary. One thing to remember is that often French wine is blended and not one grape. It allows the winemaker to make a familiar wine across vintages.
