My reference to Touch of Grey was referring to acceptance of their music to a wider audience. As a result, the traditional "Deadhead" concert goer was joined by a much wider fan base.
As a result, the dead started to play much larger venues (i.e Stadium shows) as opposed to more smaller and intimate arenas. Bigger stadiums shows resulted in bigger problems, especially as people began to take advantage of the capitalist opportunity and make some money off the band and its fanbase. Vending and Security became huge issues. For me, this is where the scene deteriorated. BTW, I do agree with DMG2 that TOG was indeed part of their standard repertoire, both as a set opener and an encore, and certainly got more then its share of playing time.
