I'd have to go with "Kind of Blue" as well. Those opening keys on "So What" send shivers up my spine.

Kind of Blue was a thought, too. So were some Charlie Parker work from the 40s. Another thought was the Coltrane-Hartman album. Or the Louie Armstrong stuff with his hot 5s and hot 7s

I really like the Monk/Coltrane disc as well. As well as the Bill Evans Trio "Portriat in Jazz".

No brainer....Kind of Blue. Those sessions and that quintet shook up the jazz scene. All of those songs were from two recording sessions and pretty spontanious. Total improvisational masterpiece.

Hearing A Love Supreme live has been an epiphany. Bill Evans leaves me breathless.

Bill Evans was my "first love" in jazz - he still amazes me.

Another (IMO "jazz") album that shook things up was Ray Charles' "Modern Trends in Country and Western Music." Anyone here ever listen to it? Awesome!
