So Edgar Martinez Retires....Is He A HOF'er???

So Edgar Martinez hangs it up today, as one of the best pitch hitters of all time. Martinez is leaving the game with a .312 career batting average, 305 home runs, 1244 RBI and a .420 on-base percentage.

So what do you think.
I think that he should based on those numbers honestly.

not even close to a HOF....jim rice, with more HRs (382) and more RBIs (1451) and a avg of .298 played in fewer games for better #s and he cant even get a whiff at the HOF. No way Edgar is going in.

Just for a little bit of information:

Edgar Martinez played from 1987-2004 with the Mariners his entire career playing 2013 games with 7060 ABs.

With 1244 RBIs, he doesn't even make the top 100 (100 being 1248).
Edgar is tied for 36th with 510 doubles in his career.
He is 44th all time with a .518 SLG
He doesn't break the top 100 for runs, and is 97th on the home run list with 305.
He is tied for 59th all time with an AVG of .312

Edgar has done nothing but DH since 2001 (he's prone to pulling muscles in his legs).

A great hitter, no doubt, but IMO not a hall of famer

Not even close.

Hell, with 500+ HRs, I'm not convinced Rafael Palmiero will make it.

Gar was the definition of DH in the 90's. He will get serious consideration, and may actually make it.

Oh I totally agree with Arthur Anderson on this one. No i do not think that he should necessarily get in but due to the recent role of the DH I think that he will.

Another reason why Jim Rice is not in and Edgar may make it: Rice was a jerk to the sportswriters who vote for HOFers. Edgar is a good guy, and this may help a little in the voting.

7-time All Star
2-time AL batting champ
but -- nearly 5,000 of his 7,000+ at bats came as a DH...
I say he's not a HOFer, but then, I've never liked the DH and don't see it as worthy of inclusion...

Bam and bada-bing.
I like him, he's made the most of his career, and will be fondly remembered. I agree with FlipFlop-ette. Not HOF if I were voting, but most likely will be included. AA. makes a good point about Jim Rice.
