Saturday evening I smoked my first Ave Maria Argentum. I'm your huckleberry little bitty perfecto with that dark almost black wrapper leaf. Initial, pre-light, assessment is sweetness on top of sweetness, and the smoke did not belie that. There was a LOT of fruit in the character, reminded me of the sweet fig, date, candied fruit mixture in the filling of the Sicilian cuccidati that we make in our family.

But it was not overwhelming and never cloying. The flavor of this cigar is different from ANYTHING else I have ever smoked. It burned, mostly, quite well, although at about halfway, the humidity got to it, and it started to go out between draws.

Since it has been awhile,
last night was a CI special, from Uncle Lawrence, a Padilla Fumas Maduro Belicoso. For the price this was a smokeable cigar. Right now on CI, they are going for $39.99 per box. These are not the very best tobacco, or even long-filler, but there is enjoyable flavor here.

It starts out a bit bready and kind of "filling" then gets a stitch sweeter as it goes. The draw was tight at the outset, and the cigar was hard RIGHT at the dickman cut, so, early on I had to cut another 1/16 of an inch and that got rid of the tight head and opened up the cigar.

Will smoke again, but not as my primary regular smoke, but it's different and in a good way.

Oliva G Churchill

The Oliva G Churchill is one of my go-to smokes. Always good and I know what to expect. Cameroon Wrappers are just plain good. These cigars are mild to mild medium. Most online reviews describe them as a solid medium, but maybe I'm just a FOG. I'm not one who can taste fig or Italian leather in a cigar, but I can tell you this cigar never disappoints. When lit, it stays lit, burns even, and tastes great. EVERY person I have had try this cigar has really enjoyed the experience. And for the price, it's a can't miss.

I am not that refined LOL.
The fruity cigar, I mentioned, just reminded me of something else.

Biff, thank you for the mini-review. I like it, and I like Cameroon, too.

Oh my. I was NOT referring to you with my taste comment! We have one pompous ass at the club that likes to tell of orange zest notes and Macadamia nuttiness in his cigars. He was in the room when I wrote my review.

I had my first ever Fauxhiba.
It had a good band, but my benefactor knows their origin, they are the "factory fakes" with the smuggled tobacco, not a glass-top box fake. It was actually a fine cigar, the ash would hold for half of an inch, or so, and was really strong. They are well-made for mixed filler/scraps.
This cigar had a sweet, almost pipe-tobacco quality to the smoke, and a sweet character throughout.

Don Rafael Gold Churchill.
This was very sweet, almost as if the leaf was sweetened. It was good, mind you, and I smoked the entire thing, as that's what I do, now. I prefer the white band to the gold, but I would not refuse one.

These were a mixed filler cigar that sells for about $45.00 to $50.00 a bundle. I won them on Cigar Bid.

If i could give these 0-stars I would. These are absolutely terrible. I don't have one good thing to say about them.
Terrible draw on the whole bundle. Terrible uneven burn on the whole bundle. And most of all TERRIBLE TASTE on the whole bundle. I suffered through 9 of them, then threw the other 11 in the garbage. Usually when I get a bad bundle of cigars I suffer through them, I could not with these, that's how bad they are.
