I've been a fan of RL for a while now. One of his cd's was done with Jon Spencer. It has some sampling and studio play on it. RL really got some grief from the traditional blues crowd over the cd. I saw an interivew with him explaining why he did it. Basically he stated that in order for blues to survive we have to get the young people intersted in it. He stated that if him doing the cd with Jon Spencer made some kids look into his other stuff then the cd has done its job. Check out T Model Ford who has a similar style.

I have one cd that just has odds and ends on it. It has him telling stories. One song on there was recorded while he was in New Orleans with friends. His friends were going out and he decided to stay at the house in the 9th ward. He pulled a recorder and started playing. You can hear a dog in the background barking. Great recording of RL just playing for himself.

If you can find copies of these discs, they are well worth the price. Best southern music mixes ever. They used to come as a bonus with an issue of the magazine. Not published anymore.
