several CA cities have a ordinances that you can't smoke in your car with the windows down, and that you can't smoke in your own back yard.

honestly, it surprises me any time I go into a restaurant that has a smoking area - even in Texas, big cities have had indoor public smoking ordinances (and bans) since the 90s.
