Newbie Storage Question
I have been buying cigars individually because I don't have a humidor and don't know how to properly humidify cigars. How here's the question. I am going to buy a box or two of cigars to take to college with me in the fall. I won't have a humidor unless I go and buy a cheap one. Is there any way to keep cigars from drying out without putting them in a humidor? Is just leaving them in the box in the cello good enough to last for a semester or so?

A semster I can't see it happening. I think you will have to break down and purchase a humidor. There are many short term solutions for storeage, but I would not risk a whole semester.

If you don't want to spend the bucks on a humidor ( ebay has them cheap!!!), at least put together a TupperDor... You can put one together one for less than $20. I wouldn't waste my cash buying the cigars and not protecting them.... Search the threads here for TupperDor instructions or just google TupperDor... cheers!

Get a tupperware or rubbermaid container that seals and a Humipak. Total less than $10...

You can put your cigars in a ziplock bag or a cigar box and put a water pillow in there with it. Water pillows are good for 30 to 45 days. If you get a few of them, you can use one each month during the semester. The water pillow has crystals in it, that when dropped in distilled water, inflates into a little pillow.
Or you can get a cylinder container of some sort with a plastic seal lining the lid and put some small silver humidification discs in with the cigars. You just put some droplets of distilled water on the discs and drop them down in the canister/container. Whatever you do, don't put them in the refrigerator. |
