Cleaned out the press. Started another run. 1 year old C&D Haunted Bookshop. Left the bottom disk out this time. Was able to squeeze in just over 10 grams.

Second attempt with Haunted Bookshop was a bust. Mostly my fault, but I did learn some things about how to load the tube for maximum capacity and why the bottom smoosh disc isn't optional.

Third attempt was started this afternoon. Going with the very aromatic CAO Eileen's Dream this time to see how heavily cased blends do when pressed.

Custom blend #1 is in the jar. I'm calling this one S-Cubed. Should be sweet, smoky, and strong. Planning to let this settle for a few days. I'll press half and let the other half marry the regular way. Maybe try a bowl of each in the Spring and see if I think pressing made a difference.

I may try this again substituting C&D Granulated Perique in for the Latakia if the Perique comes back in stock. I have no aspirations that my blend will be any better than commercially available blends, but by golly it's fun to have a hobby.

15 grams C&D Yorktown
2.5 grams C&D Latakia
2.5 grams C&D Chopped Cigar Leaf

I was busy yesterday so the Eileen's Dream press got some extra time. I was shooting for something in the 9 to 10 gram range. Nailed it. I think this would have been a full 10 grams if the casing hadn't been squeezed out of the tobacco. Maybe I would have had better results letting it dry a bit before pressing? More variables to play around with. Or, it may just be that heavily cased aromatics aren't a good fit for pressing.

Finished pressing half and decided to do the second half. What was originally in the jar can be compressed to what's now in the jar. These two pressed cakes were the same size when removed from the press. The one on the right has been in the jar for a few days has grown in size a little. Each one of these presses should be enough tobacco for 3 normal bowls with a little left over.

I like the concept. I'm going to have to upsize to the noodle press next.

I always hand-blend, never tried pressing, but I generally favor loose-cut.
