Humidor Mold
Hello all. I am a new member but have been smoking regularly for the last 7 years, fairly infrequently while in college the 4 years before that (only with my dad really). Anyway, I recently ran into a problem. My wife purchased a Princeton Humidor from Thompson for me last Christmas.
I mistakenly (I say that because I really know better) used the humidifiers that are rectangular and have openings on either side. I found that after a while the whole humidor became moldy. After I calmed myself down, I researched online and found some articles about using rubbing alcohol to remove the mold. I cleaned it out throughly and let it air out for about 3 weeks. I then began the process of seasoning it. Once seasoned I began putting new cigars in, keeping the older one that were salvaged in a different humidor. I have noticed what I believe to be an "odd" flavor in some of the newer cigars. It is the same flavor through all the cigars consistantly drowning out the true flavor of the cigars. Making even the most smooth cigars seem a little more rough. My fear is that the rubbing alcohol has ruined the cedar and is not begining to ruin my cigars. Has anyone ever encountered this, or know anything about this? Please help. Thanks. Rick |
