Will this work?

I've been using a couple of smaller Tupperdors with the Drymistat tubes. I bought a 100 count wood humidor. It came with a cheap rectangular plastic humidifier with foam. Since it snaps apart, could I just replace the foam with some gel beads? The advantage of this would be that the humidfier is attached to the lid, out of the way, and doesn't use any additional space. Any problem with this approach?
