I've resorted to a dehumidifier, this is crazy

I still can't control the humidity in my humidor no matter what advice I follow. I now have it with the lid open in the mud room of our house with a dehumidifier running set at 60%.

I'll be damned if this isn't insane. The ambient humidity is high because it's raining, but this is getting dumb on a biblical proportion.

Ambient humidity in house 60%
Humidity in humidor 78%
Humidity with humidor lid open 72%

How can any of that make sense? I'm gonna go play in traffic.

Never any stress like this since I went to coolers and kitty litter beads. Doesn't matter what the ambient RH is - I open a cooler, it reads 63-65%. Well, I have two that read 68-70%, but those have 70% cigar beads in them and only contain some really long-term agers. I add a couple of tablespoons of distilled water to the beads in each cooler about every 3 months. That's all it takes.

I do have a little trouble maintaining an even RH in my desktops, but they're cheap and mostly contain the smoke-me-nows.

And, are you using the same hygrometer to measure all these RHs?

I have three hygrometers, all salt tested, all working fine.

There is no decent excuse for this.

Word! KL is the single most bestest thing I've seen and I've been using it for 6 months now. It does the job day in and day out.

I did not believe it, but I am now a believer in kitty litter.

I put almost two pounds dry in the cooler and in about 20 minutes the humidity was 53%. I spent a couple days tweaking the amount of beads and water. It was $4 for four lbs at walmart so I could afford to do some experimenting.

After three days my cooler is solid at 66% to 67%.

I am now a firm believer in kitty litter.

Amazing.

You did get the unscented version, right? If not, I hope you like Acids.

Seriously, though, good move. You will be happy with the long-term ease of use of the beads.
