My first sampling of La Lunas was very surprising.
The La Luna Maduro Fuerte Colada is a wonderful little powerhouse. The semi box-pressed, oily, handsome black, brown wrapper provided ample smoke with an easy draw. I found the taste similar to an Ashton VSG- it had a burnt, rich, cedar taste. The smoke was smooth, but had a full taste. Nice power on such a little cigar- it put me into a wonderful nicotine stupor. A chestnut flavor evolved from the cedar tastes. 1/2 hour smoke. Even burn. This cigar left me feeling satisfied (nothing's worse than finishing a cigar and wanting another right away). Great price too. Unfortunately, the La Luna African Fuerte Camaluna disappointed me. This brown, semi boxed pressed cigar also had an easy draw and good construction, but it wasn't as full bodied as the Maduro Fuerte. I found it, boring, a little bitter with a slight pepper taste. It wasn't very strong nor was it as flavorful. Has anyone else had similar experiences with these? A side note: both cigars had tiny pinprick holes towards the foot where smoke leaked out. I just got the samplers and have quarantined them since I fear the holes were caused by beetles. Any thoughts from you all on these holes? |
