Cuban Crafters Medina 1959 Miami Torpedo

CUBAN CRAFTERS MEDINA 1959 MIAMI TORPEDO
Dimensions: 6.5 inches by 52-ring gauge
Wrapper: Sumatra
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Date smoked: Saturday March 28th, 2009
Accompanying beverages: Jameson ‘1780’ 12 Year Old Irish whiskey with filtered water on the side.
Colour of wrapper leaf: Evenly hued melding of light ochre and raw sienna tones.
Texture of wrapper leaf: Smoothly grained.
Colour of filler leaves: Tending more to the cocoa to Van Dyke brown spectrum.
Roll density: Medium.
Combustion characteristics: Excellent.
Pre-light aroma: Sweet, slightly musty tobacco. Oatmeal-raisin biscuits.
Flavour analysis: Slightly drier as well as more cedar and herb infused than the pre-light fragrance would have suggested. Yet those musty, well-matured tobacco overtones still managed to permeate the palate profile. A mild to medium strength overture led to a subtly tingling sensation on the tongue. Otherwise, the textural quality was silky smooth. Biscuit-like notes emerged at mid-point, albeit in a toastier fashion and with the creamery butter laced batter discerned on the nose showing a slight saltiness. The cigar exhibited a moderately crisper, more herbaceous demeanour toward the finish, achieving a good bittersweet balance in the process.
Assessment : The Torpedo displayed a fair degree of complexity, and was quite enjoyable. This Medina 1959 Miami certainly represents a solid alternative for those afternoon moments when one might be seeking an easy-going cigar interlude.
