Booked tickets from Southwest yesterday and they were having a sale. For each of us it was $216 round trip from Dulles to New Orleans.

Hotels in Slidell be reasonable price at the moment so... Probably drive from. ATL.

Leonard, you would do better staying in Slidell than trying to get into a hotel in New Orleans on that weekend. Most if not all of the New Orleans hotels, IF they still have vacancies, will have three-day minimum packages, and the prices will be more expensive than normal. Jazz Fest is prime-time, like Mardi Gras. You will pay for prime-time. Slidell will also have, most likely, increased rates, but much better than in the city, along with greater availability.

It is not a bad drive in to the Fair Grounds if you are looking to go to that on Friday or Sunday.

Thanks for the info

I checked hotel st marie where we stayed last time we visited NO prices were OK didn't notice the 3 day minimum. However now we are thinking hotel closer to Frenchman street, we don't do bourbon street...etc & we don't plan on going to fest. We like Frenchman Street

Staying in Slidell is certainly an option.

Friday we usually crank up about 5...Jon makes his world famous (to him, anyway) Blackened redfish /snapper/whatever we can get.. And Jamie and Tommy team up for some wonderful chargrilled (over coals) Oysters. And those that drink, drink, and we smoke. A lot. Until we decide to stop.. Usually around midnight.

Saturday is MY day to cook. Noon-ish, I boil lovely Louisiana crawfish and blue crabs. And sometimes if there's too many oysters left over from the night before we may do more oysters. Saturday last year we had an impromptu cornhole game going, and we smoked, and drank, and generally be merry. Until we decide to stop. Usually around dark, but there's no time.. Long as people wanna stay, we stay.

Which is also the reason we NEED to know how many are going to be here.. As if I don't know how many crawfish to buy.. And I don't buy enough.. You gonna be eating Popeyes chicken. And conversely, if you DON'T show up.. That will ALSO be noted. Quite disapprovingly, I might add.

Shrimp will probably not be available. They usually aren't.
