Makes sense Doug. Like with wines, sometimes they mask inferior product by over aging it in oak.

sometimes you keep aging wine and whiskey hoping it will get better, sometimes it doesn't.

wine... you read how some mass market wine is made and you may be stunned what you find out... like its the juice of about any grape with various chemicals added to give it "character"

Not just mass market. Shenanigans abound in the word of oenology.

Had some wonderful Maker's Mark Keeneland 2012 bourbon. I guess 2012 was a good year -- it was wonderful!

Awhile back, I picked up some bottles that I was told went back to possibly the late '50's/early '60's.

A bottle of House of Lords, a Masterpiece by Calvert, 2 Lang's 8 yr old, and a bottle of Gilbey's Spey Royal with the music box in the bottom of the bottle. With seals intact

Still trying to decide when to open them up.

Those bottles aren't getting any 'younger', Doug.

you might try pricing them on the collectors market before you open them... some of that old stuff goes for big dollars

Wonder what a confirmed wino would pay for my fifty year old bottle of Wilson, That's All.

I know. It's really a hard decision. After going to the bourbon auctions that the state was having last fall, I've been seriously thinking about trying to trade one of these for something.

Last I knew, the auctioneer still had some bottle left @ $100/each. I've been thinking of calling and seeing if he actually does have any left.

Decisions. Decisions.
