CO question

I have an original CO, the black one with analog control. I've turned the knob so that it's all the way to the minus setting, but it continues to run beyond the 65% that I want it. I had to unplug it because it was getting too high. I don't have the manual and since CO has gone beyond this model, I can't seem to find any info on the web. Anyone know exactly how this thing works?

You are doing exactly what you are supposed to do. Check one thing first. There should be no standing water in the cartridge. All you should see is damp foam. If that is the case, call them. It's very unlikely that you will get anywhere, because their warranty on the original Cigar Oasis expired a couple of years ago and they do not service anything outside of the warranty period. If Cigar Oasis won't help, call the retailer you bought it from, they may have a warranty that extends beyond what even Cigar Oasis offers. If so, you will wind up with a Cigar Oasis XL as a replacement since no one still has any of the original models lying around.

Unfortunately, I bought it from a member here...I didn't know the foam is only supposed to be damp. I'll have to air it out a little first I suppose.

Well, I figured that small screw next to the knob did something so I turned it and lo and behold, it shut off. I think it's used to calibrate so I'll mess around with it and figure it out. Thanks for all your input.

Yes, the screw is for the gross adjustment. A LITTLE goes a long way. The raised dial, which is your normal adjustment setting has a 20% swing. That means if the unit was calibrated to 70%, the normal adjustment will let you set the unit to 60% - 80%. Turning the recessed screw changes this set point.

The foam is supposed to be damp, not standing in water. You don't have to air it out. Hold the cartridge over the sink, tip it upside down. If no water pours out, this is exactly what you are supposed to have. If there is standing water that you can see in the cartridge, then all you are going to get is the fan making water ripples instead of picking up water vapor and moving it into your humidor.

Thanks, mhotek. I fiddled around with it and have it solid at around 64%, which is where I wanted it.

How often should I replace the water? Once a month?

When the fan runs non-stop or the unit feels really light, just refill it with distilled water.
