Bug outbreak survey *Please Vote*
So how many of us have experienced a beetle problem? Of those who have, were ISOMs involved, NCs, both? I've read over and over again that NCs rarely have beetle problems.

I have had exactly one cigar with one beetle hole, and I wouldn't classify that as an outbreak.

I only had a scare once, when I found a lone beetle crawling on the lid of the humidor. Into the freezer everything went!
Mind you, I was smoking a RASS on the weekend, and almost every puff at the beginning, there was a little flare up sound, that i am sure were the little blighters eggs! May they rest in peace!

I've had a few beetles show up in my desktop. Once I knew the outbreak happened, all the infected cigars where put in a zipplock for immediate torching, and I was contained.
What I found suprising was the the outbreaks actually started in the section that I keep Double Coronas in. None of the other sizes had any problems. Has anyone esle experienced this? |

Never had one here - but I get 99% of what I have from either CI or JR's. There was one time I bought a cigar that had a lone beetle hole in it from Cubano's shop. I brought it back to him and we went through all the boxes (it was an LGC). Luckily there weren't any more. Ed got ahold of his contact and they immediately sent out a new box. Thank God it was inside the cello!

Thanks for all of the responses. Please Vote if you haven't yet. This is a great way to get a sense of how common this problem is but I'd like to get a larger sample.
Thanks, -AM

I had a beetle problem a couple of years ago. I had to freeze the entire contents of my MxT. That was a major PITA. I froze everything in the deep freeze, out in the garage. I had a few boxes of habanos that got hit hard. The NC's didn't take any damage. Those little buggers sure like that island tobacco.

I never had a live one, but a few years ago, I had a bundle of Montesino.
I grabbed one from the middle of the bundle and it looked like a flute. I got the bundle out of the cooler immediately and froze it (although I never did get around to smoking it - tossed em.) Apparently, this damage occured long before I got em and the vendor must have frozen em. They were pretty well ate up and the cello on the bundle was full of holes. I didn't feel like freezing everything in the 120 qt. cooler (one of the reasons I prefer 48 qt boxes), so I kept a close eye on em - no other damage. BTW, I haven't frozen anything for several years. |
