In a pinch, John, Murray - for 2 reasons:

1. He strikes me as being less in bed with the industry (he even dares boast of this 'fact'!) and much more forthright in his views even though, as we all realize, no one that deeply immersed in the whisky world can be entirely independent.

2. On the whole, his tastes correspond more closely with mine. Jackson, on the whole, seems to have a bit of a penchant for the more heavily sherried styles of malt, while Murray prefers to have the crispness of the malt as the predominant characteristic and any sherried element as strictly a secondary influence.

But at this stage, I have to trust my own palate above and beyond the opinions of others. And that's what I advise to ANYONE. Trust your own taste buds!
