Boutique Cigars? What does it mean?
Can someone please help me understand this term. I read it often especially when talking about the cigar boom days of the mid nineties.

Small manufacturer/production. At least that's how I understand it.

Limited production, high price, supposed exclusivity!
IMHO much more sizzle than steak. Most of them ended up as close outs at places like JR & CI. Unfortunately, I bit on a few from both of those places. Again, IMHO they weren't even worth the deeply discounted prices.

As I understand it, a producer uses leaf that is in small supply or low demand to make a cigar that is not designed for mainstream tastes. Low volume equals low risk, and at the same time they test the waters of consumer appeal.

Gurkha and La Perla Habana. They both have their cigars rolled for them by Torano.

As a "real" boutique is different from a large clothing store so a boutique brand cigar is a small company with limited numbers of cigars produced.
Compare the aforementioned Moore & Bode, La Perla Habana, La Luna, Cupido, among others to large producers like Tabacalera A. Fuente, General Cigars/Swedish Match, Consolidated/Altadis, and I daresay, Carlos Toraño (only because they manufacture for so many companies....)

How do you type a Spanish n with a tilde over it? (I can pronounce it, but not sure how you spell it out.)
