Eric Dolphy Remembered

June 20th, 2003 marks the 75th anniversary of the birth of Eric Dolphy.
Dolphy, a multi-instrumentalist, rose to prominence with Chico Hamilton's band during the 1950s. His innovative improvisatons on alto saxophone, flute, clarinet and bass clarinet led to sessions with Charles Mingus, Booker Little, Bobby Hutcherson and John Coltrane among others. Many consider Dolphy's 1964 album "Out To Lunch" a classic. Personally, I find his 1961 live club recordings (at the Five Spot with Little and at the Village Vanguard with Coltrane's group) incredibly spontaneous and soul-searching. Tragically, Eric Dolphy passed away on June 29th, 1964 - 39 years ago this month.

Any other Dolphy enthusiasts "Out There"?
