Thanksgiving, what’s on your menu?

Got my turkey today. Biggest one I have ever got, 23 pounds. No choice, all they had were big birds. This means I have to start thawing it in my fridge today so it will be ready on Thanksgiving.

Got a 4 bone rib roast. It’s a big roast for a 4 bone roast.

Usual thanksgiving sides like green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sausage country gravy, cranberry sauce, mixed vegetables, mashed sweet potatoes, other sides and appetizers.

Lots of leftovers for sure.

Add shoepeg white corn and marinated asparagus and that's our feast.

Traditional here as well.

Getting a bird this morning for thaw and brine procedures. Giblet preps and all that. There will be a bread stuffing made but our traditional oyster dressing has faded with the folks that loved it. Waldorf salad went that way too.

Sweet potato dish, mashed potatoes for the bird gravy. Some other veg dishes based on what looks good when that shopping is done.

Desserts are starting today and will run through the week. Lemon pie, pumpkin pie, chokkit pecan pie, Cranberry Walnut pie to name a few.

Lost 10 pounds for this food season between now and New Years. Time to regain some insulation again.

Getting chilly out there...

I don't know what I'm doing. We were originally going to go to my parents' house along with the rest of the family. There would be 10 of us which is currently legal in NY. My wife would be going to her mother's house for a very small dinner. Her mother is concerned and didn't want more than a few people there.

Now, because things have worsened my parents are not going. So it would be 8 of us at my brothers. But now I'm wondering if I should just do something at home with my two sons. I was actually considering ordering the Thanksgiving Dinner meal from Denny's for the three of us to have. It wouldn't be the same as our usually Thanksgiving meal, but with only three of us it would probably be okay.

I'd go with Popeye's if you have one. Their fried turkeys are the best. Tried my own rig to fry turkeys many years ago, with the whole spice rub thingy. Once you factor in 5 gallons of peanut oil, not only is it a pain in the ass you can tick off your list, it's economical.

I went through the whole brining and frying (ought to make a good band name) for a CW article about 12 years ago. Never since.
