International market

Reminded myself why I only go twice a year. While the dollar goes a lot further, it requires an immense level of discipline to not buy more than you can use before it spoils. Big finds today: fresh head on shrimp, Kim Chee big hunks of pork belly for making homemade bacon. Gonna be a good week to eat here!

From my experience, the Koreans have my vote. It's unfortunate that we don't get more pickled products from them.

Korean restaurants are a good place to find them. As a point of humor, our local Korean restaurant is named "Ill Me".

For foodies, H Mart is your biggest dream and worst nightmare. You can get most everything at supermarket prices.

If shopping international markets besides H Mart, beware purchasing anything with any sort of grain in. You can see the meal moths flying around the store and they will infest any grain or spice that isn't sealed up.

Speaking from experience, it is hell trying to get rid of them. Been working on it 3 years throwing infested stuff out and using Pine Sol to wipe out the inside of cabonets along with pheramone traps.

I have a t shirt from the bugs, I seem to have left them in VA

There is a spray available...

H Mart I have had some bad luck with some fish not being very fresh

We are about to have the Patel Brothers open a store

Caputos is a Chicago things, great produce, too bad they stopped breaking down their own beefs. Funny there are two Caputo operations, the brothers got in a fight and split. They also have a pretty good selection of things Asian and Eastern European and real German chocolate.

Standard Market is the food porn store, best meat I have ever bought, huge cheese selection, a somm in charge of wines. Real bakery. Most people but their pre made stuff, which is cooked by real chefs. https://standardmarket.com/

I may walk to Standard in a bit and buy food to make my dinner.

We also have some other markets run by Eastern Europeans. I still don't know what some of the sausages are.

how many kinds of lentils do you want? Dried fish? Dried shrimp? Dry aged beef? Chickpeas? Multiple brands of noodles? 50 kinds of fish sauces?
