Got up early this morning and decided to light up an original release Fuente 858 Sun Grown. Not sure about everybody else, but I really like these, and had problems finding them in quantity.
So, I lit this up -- the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch has that just kind of settling in phase. At the very first, you don't think the cigar holds much promise. It's just kind of "blah". Then -- WOW !!!. You get that focused 858 flavor and body. You can really taste that sun grown wrapper too. A delicate body but complex. Some amazing flavor. It's a really great cigar. It brings back memories as the 858 maduro was one of my "everyday" cigars way back when -- when I first started smoking. The original relase was hard to come by. The second release was a bit easier. I found a news store, that participated in the Fuente window display contest. Cigars are not their primary business and they have a small shelf-like humidor. I walked in recently to get some newspapers, mag's, etc. -- and I decided to look in the humidor like I always do Never buy, just look out of curiosity. SCORE !!! 3 boxes of 858 Sun Growns. First, I thought that in the first year, each retailer who was in the window display contest only got 2 boxes, but that must have changed as this guy had 3. Well, he had 3 until I got there. Decent price too. Anyway, I really like this smoke. Dr. X Edited by - Dr. X on 03/09/2002 2:47:22 PM |
