Finally tried Johnnie Walker Blue
I was at the bar the other night and someone started buying drinks all around
At $18 a shot, it's hardly something I would buy otherwise. It is definitely an Islay blend. There is a respectable, but not overpowering peatiness to it. It's a lighter color than I'm used to--looks more like Cuervo than anything else. Very smooth going down. Was it worth trying? Yes Was it worth $18? No Would I drink it again? Yes Would I drink it if I had to pay more than $7? Probably not. Also had a round of Glenfiddich (sp?) 15 year old. AFAIC, 12 year fiddich is downright nasty. This 15 was a double wood aged, I believe, and had a light oak hint to it. No peat to speak of, very little other flavor, but it was like silk going down. I'm still not a real fan of Highland varieties, but this wasn't bad for a change. If you have the opportunity to get 15 over 12 and you're dead-set on fiddich, by all means do it. For the money, though, there are better bottles out there. Next one in my rotation will probably be a Bowmore (sp?), if I can find the funds.
