Taboada Dom Perignon blend churchill

Thanks to a good friend in SoCal (thanks Mike), I got my hands on a few of these that were rolled by Sr. Taboada at the Tijuana LCDH recently (last May, I believe).

This one had a Colorado wrapper that was medium smooth and oily with medium to light veining, a smooth to medium cap and an unfinished foot. The bunch was pleasingly firm. The cap clipped cleanly with the Xicar and had a pre-light draw that was just on the easy side of perfect.

The cigar lit easily with my soft-flame Vector Emperor and immediately produced copious amounts of deliciously rich bluish smoke.

Much has been said about the quality of Sr. Taboada's roll and blend, and this cigar certainly lived up to all of the positive press. It was voluptuously rich, perfectly balanced with full to powerful strength and satiating body. The generous flavor was wonderfully rich tobacco with slight pepper and leather undertones, with a creaminess developing after a blow-out about half way.

The cigar displayed distinguished character and satiating body, providing a truly outstanding smoke.

While perhaps not the "king of the custom-rolleds" (I hold that distinction aside for Taboada's Salomone), it definitely qualifies as royalty. Truly a cigar for the experienced aficianado as it is on the strong side and will leave the smoker with a slight to pronounced nicotine buzz (depending on hwo fast it is smoked and what is consumed alongside it), but is in my opinion one of the finest cigars available. It will truly be a sad day when Sr. Taboada no longer rolls them.

Overall rating: 49 of 50
