Aurora Barrel Aged-In-Smoke Review

I am well aware that I am breaking protocol, somewhat. I do not have a second sample of this cigar, which may skew my result.

It's about 75 degrees out, just now in Greater New Orleans, a Lipton Diet Peach Tea at one side along with a (according to the band) Aurora Barrel Aged double corona.

Prior to lighting, this thing had a sweet aroma and has begun drawing quite well. The wrapper leaf is pretty, but it's also rustic, there are a number of veins and leaf edges present.

At this first or second draw of the cigar, I get a woody character now that it's cooled a bit. I guess one would expect that from a cigar aged in a wooden barrel, no? The burn is nice, no problems with the wrapper leaf are evident, either. At this early juncture, it's putting off a generous amount of smoke both on the draw, and from the release. That's always a favorite part of any cigar I enjoy.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND.......it went out. One eighth of an inch, long enough for me to type and, there it goes. It relit easy enough and the generous smoke is back.

* About a fourth of the way into the cigar, it's tasty, toasty, a bit leathery but also with a hint of char coming through. I'm enjoying it, but holding it close so it doesn't go out again. There's a fair breeze coming from behind me as I sit on the driveway.

* Halfway through, now, it's got just a bit of a canoe to the burn, which is holding the ash. The flavor has not changed from the last update, although the leather is starting to become more prominent than it was, although the char is still there, too.

* Inexorably approaching the band, no changes in the flavor.

It's safe to say that this is a good cigar, it's enjoyable and has made this afternoon a winner. It is not, however, the greatest thing I've ever smoked. I would certainly smoke another one, but it wouldn't be the first choice out of the humidor.

*** Rating on my own scale. It may be half a star either direction dependent upon the pricepoint.

With apologies to my great friend JefSlat: "Joe Bob says 'Check it out.' "
