Don Kiki brown label Botella
Memories...some things are best forgotten, such as lousy boom cigars. And I had forgotten exactly how bad most domestic cigars were back in the boom days. With all of the great domestic cigars out there today to choose from, I forgot how bad many of them used to be. See my reviews - just about everything that I've smoked in the past year was excellent. I even tried to err on the side of low scores, so as not to get a reputation as someone who rates everything highly. But a good cigar is a good cigar, and I've smoked a lot of them recently. So I'd forgotten how bad the average domestic boom cigar was. Forgotten, that is, until the Don Kiki brown label Botella.
This Best Seller-type cigar had a decent looking brown wrapper to match its label. Any semblance of a good cigar ends here. This cigar sucked major ass. I could make a bunch of jokes about "brown" and "shit" but I'm not going to. It would be a waste of time. I realize that Don Kikis are cheap cigars, but that's not an excuse (see: Alcazar Maduro). This cigar instantly transported me back to 1996 and a humidor full of crappy Don Nobodies. That's what this cigar tasted like, a bad 1990's boom cigar rolled with inferior tobacco and not cured very well. After smoking this, I genuinely wondered why I kept on smoking cigars throughout the boom. Score - don't smoke these. In a CA-style blind tasting, this cigar would not even make the 80 cut. Don Kiki, whoever you are - you may as well start putting your turds in the box (or are you already?).
