Humidity in the winter...
I have a larger 150ct. humi and a smaller 75 ct. in my office. Up until a few weeks ago, they were holding the humidity fairly well. These days I think I have to wet my beads every other day because they dry out so quickly. I never really seasoned either humi but they seemed to work just fine. Is there something going on because of season that might be contributing to this? Or is there something else...in my office, the temp is a constant 70% all year round....thanks for any help.

Welcome to winter and the dry air. I have a cabinet and all summer I use no humidification. Once the weather turns , I need to turn on my CO2 and CO +. I refill every week too.

in another thread it was discussed that the battery in your hygro. may be dying...it seems to give false reading with a dying battery

Your household heater dries out the air along with heating it. Whenever you open your humidors, it will suck in that dry air and will work you humidifiers harder than in the warmer months.

If you have forced air heat it will be a constant challenge. THe best idea is to either go with the Bovada system or something active like the cigar oasis.

add a supplemental humidifer such as the Bovedas or a Paradigm unit.

I took a more global approach and added a humidifier to the heating system in my house....keeps the house in the 40-45% range so it does not overwork the humidification devices in the humi's as much.
Granted I did this to make the living environment more comfortable in the winter, but the added benefit of making my smoke's environment more stable is a bonus! |

Some great tips on this thread.
Good idea to go ahead and change out the battery in your hygrometer. (This is assuming that you know for certain it is accurate in the first place.) Using a Cigar Oasis is a great idea for keeping constant humidity. Use that in combination with beads and it will keep everything VERY well balanced.
