Anxiously awaiting my first order from Burman's

Got my popper all ready to roast my first batch as soon as UPS gets here tomorrow. Can't wait.

Any simple mistakes a first timer should try to avoid?

Keep your eyes and ears on it!
My roaster works differently, so that's all I can share...

All peaberries? Huh.

In any case, watch, smell, and listen. You can't miss first crack - which any bean needs to get all the way through - but some beans segue directly into second crack with no distinct pause. Even if that does happen, though, you'll hear the pops change: they're sharp and loud in first crack, and softer/quieter in second crack.

The Kenyan will roast darker in color for any given stage than your other beans. I'd let second crack just get started with that one.

I'd try to stop the Hawaiian before it got to second crack, but after first crack is over. That's a tough game to play with a new bean and unfamiliar equipment, but it's what I'd shoot for. If first crack falls off cleanly, count 10-15 seconds and shut it down...or shut it down at the very first indication of second crack. I'd also suggest no less than 48 hours rest before brewing.

Can't help with the Terruno - don't know that one.

Let us know how it goes! I'm confident your first cup of truly fresh coffee is going to be an epiphany.

You do have a colander to dump the beans into as soon as you shut the popper down, don't you? Dump and toss to cool...

I do.

Was getting all Peaberry a mistake? Should I have started with something different?
